12 CAR RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
|
|
This year Morecambe Car Clubs 12 Car Rally series is once again sponsored by Road and Stage Motorsport. Vouchers to be spent at Road and Stage can be
won on each event. 12 Car Rallies are short road rallies, usually run on an evening during the week. Morecambe Car Club runs 12 Car Rallies on the third
Tuesday of the month between October and April. The object of a road rally is to follow a set route and to maintain a set speed schedule. En-route you
will enounter things such as time controls, passage controls and route checks, these are all intended to ensure that you have followed the correct route
and kept to the speed schedule. A competitor may never be asked to average more than 30 miles per hour between time controls, however when the roads are
narrow, twisty, it's dark and you keep having to stop for route checks, passage controls and give way junctions this can soon become a challenge. This
year the 12 car championship is being co-ordinated by Paul Mount with a variety of people putting on the rounds. The events are aimed at teaching
inexperienced navigators how to become a competent navigator capable of competing in national level Road Rallies. The 12 Car Series uses some of the
best roads in the Lancashire, Cumbria and Yorkshire to give an interesting route which all will enjoy. Further details of this series can be found in
the club newsletter.and here.
Unfortunately due to the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease the 2001 12 car rally series has been cancelled and replaced with a road rally navigation
class run by Kevin Savage, these are running on the third tuesday of the month at the Headway Hotel in Morecambe starting at 20:00hrs.
